It's crunch time!
I'm getting ready to come home (leaving in less than 36 hours!) which entails packing, cleaning, working, teaching, and taking care of a lot of outstanding responsibilities that I don't want to worry about while I'm away. But I've got priorities! I found the following on the Northwest website tonight and am wondering if should dare bring my nice (small) knitting scissors with me on the plane...
"As of December 22, 2005 scissors with a cutting edge of four inches or less and tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches and pliers smaller than seven inches will be permitted in passenger carry-on bags."
It would appear that my small knitting scissors could make the in-cabin flight, but I've already lost one pair of scissors this year (tested bringing my haircutting scissors when I went to HK but was shut down and had to throw them away at the airport). Anyone bring small scissors like this on an international flight recently?
I could always check them, but what if I make TONS of knitting progress on that long, long flight and want to start a second legwarmer? (new project, long story). Decisions!
Either way, I'm headed straight for "the heartland" (as someone would put it) this week and despite all the stress of leaving and my nagging cough, I am SOOOOOOO excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take care, and say hello to your mother from me!

Why don't you print out the Northwest page with the scissors info and bring it with you?
ALTHOUGH, now that I'm thinking of it, I brought little scissors over on the flight last January and they made me discard them at the Nagoya check-in. Japanese rules.

Take nail clippers instead!

You can use the cutter on a floss container to snip yarn. Or a nail clipper without the file.
Personally, I invested a dollar in a high quality pair of child scissors which does the trick. If you get the blunted tip scissors, they don't look very threatening.
The circular rotary cutters are not allowed on planes, not that they catch it often...

If you need to cut the yarn, a knife from your inflight meal will do it. It isn't super-neat, but it means you don't risk losing another pair of scissors.
Happy travels!

Ha! I was on the website yesterday too confirming that I was allowed to take my needles - yahoo! Also to check what movies are playing!! I was going to suggest nail clippers too, so if you rip a nail you are covered too!!! I tried once to take my special scissors (cost $20) but ended up having to send them back to my apartment from narita!!!!

I use nail clippers - that's what I take on all my flights so I don't lose my good scissors. Are you coming home for good???
