I just couldn't wait

Last Thursday, my parents arrived in Japan with 5 suitcases!  Inside were all sorts of wonderful surprises.  Actually, there were only a few surprises because I made quite a lot of requests.  I think my parents' things for the visit couldn't have taken up more than one or two suitcases.  Imagine my horror, when my mom called to say that their flight was delayed from Detroit, so instead of flying to the new, luxurious airport 40 minutes away, they would be taking the long journey from Tokyo on the bullet train.  I rushed to Nagoya to meet them and help with the heavy bags, and my shoulders and neck are STILL sore.  Not that I'm complaining or anything!

My Lucky Clover wrap yarn came, and I immediately started on my swatch.

Doesn't it look perfect?  Let's zoom out and see...

Oh, whoops!  It's only about 3.65 inches wide and it should be 4.  Hmm...  how about the row gauge (is that the right term?)?  Let's zoom out a little more.

Look at that tangle.  It doesn't look too menacing, but trust me, it's bad.  I WON'T be finishing this swatch, but rather using my usual guesstimation techniques and hoping it all works out for the best.  I was trying to decide between making a small or a medium, so I will go for the medium and hope it all turns out for the best.

I know, I've had 3 whole days to work on this, but they have been a whirlwind with my parents, their friends, my coworkers and the struggle to "translate."  I'm a bit exhausted, but at least I'm not jetlagged.  Tomorrow morning, I will hopefully have the energy to cast on on the 7 am train to Hiroshima!!

Your swatch looks great.

The travel woes don't sound like much fun, but it sounds like you all are now having a great time!

great swatching there. swatching could have saved me a lot of froggin' i'm soooo tempted to try that cardi. must.finish.current.knits.

sounds like a tiring, but great time. take care!

Looks to me like your gauge might be right on, with blocking. (I'll be watching your progress -- this one's on my to-knit list.)

Have a wonderful time with your parents! How wonderful to have visitors when you live in a faraway land!

FIVE suitcases? Yowza! That's what kuroneko and those other delivery services are good for! On our way back to the states, we sent our suitcases to the airport and just carried smaller bags on the shinkansen. We then picked up the suitcases at the airport and sent them through! Very easy and pretty cheap. Hope you are having a wonderful time, and your swatch looks very purty!

Lucky clover is too cool. As with froggy I may not knit it without finishing something else. ARGH!
