I'm tired
Thanks to all my concerned knitting friends who all helped me out in my hour of need! I did decide that a skinny scarf was indeed in order, and started knitting one up in some purple R2 paper tape last night. I am more than halfway there!
Everyone had really great suggestions and it has actually inspired me to make a cool skinny scarf or two at a more leisurely pace when all of this is Valentine's nonsense is said and done.
The one thing the whole experience has taught me, however, is that having a big stash is REALLY IMPORTANT. Hear that? All you knitters out there with big stashes, you will be rewarded when you need a skinny scarf in less than 24 hours and have lots of stuff to choose from. My supplies were severely limited, but thanks to my secret pal 3, I had some good stuff that I had kind of forgotten about.
I wish I could take pinku's advice from the big city and make a super glam, glittery gold scarf, but since I live in the boonies AND have a day job, that just wasn't meant to happen. But a gold glittery scarf sure would nicely compliment my black and white polka dot wristwarmers with gold trim...
Now, back to that day job thing...

The R2 paper scarf sounds awesome. I know what you mean about a day job getting in the way of knitting!! I guess I sometimes take it for granted that I have SO many options living in Tokes - it's not all that though (see picture of weird old man carrying doll on pinku).

Also if you need a cheap yarn fix here in Japan, there are some great online options that will deliver ANYWHERE!! Check out this sparkling mohair - it's on sale for 105 yen per skein - bargain!!

How did I miss your post requesting help?!? I'm not cool anyway, so I wouldn't have been much help ;-) But the paper scarf sounds great. ;-)

I totally missed the skinny scarf poll. I love them though... You can also wear them as a belt. ;)
I wish I didn't have a day job too so I could knit all day long. Sigh.

A skinny paper scarf sounds cool. You should knit a gold glittery scarf too. You can't go wrong with sequins!

I think the skinny scarf will be awesome. I also love your defense of the big stash...although my current stash is mostly sock yarn, so that does defy your logic slightly.
