You learn something new every day...
Today I made my first pompom! It looks a little lopsided, but I think it has character. I was planning to just whip it out before dinner and it ended up taking quite a long time. All that winding around my cardboard rings... I was too pooped to make another one. Maybe tomorrow. I attached it to the end of the cord on my new modified Kittyville hat:
I look pretty stupid in hats, especially with short hair.
I DO have hair though, and you can see it a little bit under there.
I think if I put a pompom on top it will look better. Then it won't look stupid because I have a big head or no hair, it will look stupid because of the pompom. MUCH better. Now I just have to make some more pompoms. Also, I know you're wondering: Yes, I do have one of those awful sliding accordion walls in my apartment and as hideously ugly as it is in all its beige, marbled goodness, the kitchen is cold so I am forced to use it.
After the pompom session and lots of fun with my digital camera, I worked on my maroon cabled sweater. Yes, it's true, that project is still alive and kickin! I am now the proud owner of 4 completed sweater pieces! I used all the pins I have to pin out the body for blocking, but since I only have three towels, I have to do my blocking in shifts. Hopefully I can fit the sleeves in on the weekend and finish sewing it all together sometime next week. Classes and everything else I am usually busy with all start again sometime next week so I am trying to fit in all the pre-stress fun that I can while I still have free time. It's great to waste time at work and actually be able to organize my time knowing that I can come home every day at 4:15. Yahoooooo!

a pompom tip from an expert (ok so i've only ever made one): it's a lot quicker if you use two or three or four strands of yarn at the same time!

I love pompoms! Plus, you are in the land of the great Clover pompom maker, are you not?

pompon hint: thread a big fat needle with several pieces of yarn and pass it through your cardboard donut. It's MUCH MUCH MUCH faster. And don't stop threading until the hole is stuffed right full of yarn.
I have an accordion door. But mine is plastic masquerading as wood. It's soooo beautiful.

I just discovered your blog from the flowerswap and enjoy it. The flowers and scarf you made for Christmas are so nice! I just love your little flower. Where did you come up with the idea for the pattern and would you be willing to share? Happy new year!

1) I know what you mean about short hair and hats. All hats are off for me now.
2) re:pompons. I was about to email you about this! Apparently, the Japanese part of "Clover" makes a pompom maker that's pretty sweet - it's like two semi-circles and so it's much faster. Only available in Japan (where in Japan I dunno) - maybe you can find one??! Here's the URL where I saw it: http://www.tata-tatao.to/knit/closeup/e-clover.html

If you happen upon one of those Clover pompom makers sometime when you're out shopping, how about picking one up? Or two, if you want one, too. ;-)
